  • The Threads That Bind: Exploring the Sacred Traditions of Tibet and India

Locating The Sacred Festival produced by Asian American Arts Alliance, NYC
Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, Staten Island, NY
    Sept 12 - Nov 26, 2012

Locating the Sacred Festival celebrates three decades of the Alliance. The seed of this festival was inspired by the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and the national rancor that broke out over Park51, or the “Ground Zero mosque.” The Alliance wanted to provide a public stage on which Asian American artists could contribute to the critical conversation regarding what constitutes the sacred in our complex urban environment. In Ms. Moorthy's three installations, handwritten prayers from the community in New York and sacred threads from temples in India have been combined to show that love, intellect and strength will help to conquer any challenge.
